HOME / FALLING OBJECTS
Struck by falling or flying objects
Hard hats help, but they don't stop a pallet of block or a falling beam.

How these accidents happen
- Tools and materials dropped from upper floors
- No toe boards, debris nets or covered walkways
- Loads that slip from a crane or forklift
- Walls, trenches or formwork that collapse
Head and brain injuries
Being struck in the head can cause a brain injury even with a hard hat on. Symptoms like headaches, memory problems or mood changes can show up later. Tell your doctor exactly what hit you.
Trench collapses
Trenches over a certain depth generally need protection like shoring or trench boxes. A collapse is often a sign that rules weren't followed.
Witnesses matter. On a busy site, someone usually saw what fell and from where. Get their names before the job moves on.
