HOME / BYSTANDERS
Hurt by construction you weren't part of
You were walking, driving or visiting. The construction work hurt you anyway.

Common situations
- Debris falling from a building onto a sidewalk
- Closed sidewalks that force pedestrians into traffic
- Work zone crashes caused by bad signs, sudden lane shifts or equipment in the road
- Unmarked holes, uneven pavement or loose plates in the road
- Visitors hurt touring a site or a commercial property under renovation
Traffic control rules
Crews working in or near the road must set up proper warning signs, cones and traffic control. When they don't, drivers and pedestrians can be hurt.
Government projects
If a city, county or the state was involved in the project, special notice deadlines can apply, sometimes as short as six months.
Take photos right away: signs, cones (or the lack of them), the hazard and any company names on equipment.
