Falls from scaffolds, ladders and roofs
Falls are among the most serious construction accidents, and many are preventable.

Common causes
- Scaffolds built or inspected wrong, or missing planks and rails
- No guardrails, safety nets or personal fall arrest systems
- Unprotected floor openings and roof edges
- Defective or wrong-size ladders
Fall protection rules
Federal safety rules require fall protection for construction work at certain heights and set standards for scaffolds and ladders. When a company ignores those rules, it can be strong evidence of carelessness.
Save it: photos of the scaffold, harness, anchor point and the area you fell from, before it's taken down or fixed.
Defective equipment
If a harness, lanyard, ladder or scaffold part failed, the product itself may be evidence. Ask that it be kept, and tell us right away.
